Tickets are now on sale for the Archibald Prize 2023 regional tour, which opens at Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery on September 15. The display of 57 portraits, including Julia Gutman’s winning portrait of singer-songwriter Montaigne and Andrea Huelin’s Packing Room Prize-winning portrait of Cal Wilson, will be on show until November 5.
The exclusive Victorian exhibition is expected to bring tens of thousands of visitors to the Mornington Peninsula, and MPRG is curating a program of events including artist talks, tours, workshops, and stacks of family-friendly activities for the school holidays. On Fridays the exhibition will be open until 9pm. Unwind at Habitat Bar, with live music from Peninsula artists and an extensive menu of drinks from TWOBAYS Brewery, Jetty Road, JimmyRum, Bass & Flinders Distillery, Rhino Tiger Bear Winery, and Rahona Winery. There will also be food pop-ups as well as cheese boards from The Vegan Dairy and Boatshed Cheese.
Mayor Steve Holland said he was excited for the Peninsula to again host the regional tour. “When the Archibald Prize last came to our gallery a decade ago, tickets sold quickly, and some weeks were completely sold out. It will not only benefit MPRG but also the wider Mornington Peninsula community, including retailers, hospitality and accommodation businesses.”
MPRG director Danny Lacy said it was an honour to host the exhibition for the first time in 10 years. “This event is as popular as ever and we encourage art fans and cultural adventurers to book their tickets in advance so they can plan their Mornington Peninsula experience.”
