Have your say on Shire’s food truck policy

Three-year permits and the provision of power at sites are among the changes being considered by Mornington Peninsula Shire to its food truck policy. The Shire is calling on food truck vendors, businesses and the community to have their say on the proposed changes, which it says are designed to make it easier for the Peninsula’s mobile food and drink vendors to sell coffee, smoothies, food and treats from their vehicles.

“Each year we allocate static permits for Peninsula locations and roving residential permits via an expressions of interest process,” the Shire said in a statement this morning.

The main changes being proposed are:
• An increase in the length of permits from one to three years;
• Setting annual site fees;
• Beginning the licence period on May 1 each year;
• Issuing additional winter-only permits;
• Providing electricity at all sites where possible;
• Increasing residential roving permits from two to four;
• Growing current sites and introducing new sites;
• Asking food truck vendors to demonstrate how they will benefit the community; and,
• Giving preference to Peninsula operators and produce.

“Our food truck policy helps guide decisions and support the ongoing management of food trucks across the Shire,” said Mayor Anthony Marsh. “Now it’s time for a fresh update and we would like to hear from our food truck vendors, brick-and-mortar businesses and community members. Your feedback can help inform the updated policy.”
