Mornington Peninsula Shire has put out a call for residents who are passionate about climate change to help it reach its 2040 net-zero emissions target. “In order to reach this target, we all have a role to play and we need your help,” it said in a statement today.
“We have partnered with not-for-profit organisation Climate for Change to train facilitators to lead Climate Conversations within our community. Climate Conversations are facilitated informal conversations aiming to create meaningful action on climate change through the power of ordinary Australians. You don’t need any experience – just passion, commitment and drive. In this ongoing volunteer role, you will be part of a strong team of facilitators who will help inspire the local community to take action on climate change.
“We know the majority of Australians are concerned about climate change but aren’t sure what they can do about it. Having quality conversations about climate change in a relaxed environment helps build social connections and the momentum for change that’s required to achieve effective climate action. If you’re looking to do something meaningful and effective – and fun – in tackling climate change, we encourage you to consider applying.”
Mayor Anthony Marsh said: “When developing our Climate Emergency Response: Ensuring Our Future 2020, the community wanted us to act in response to climate change for the Mornington Peninsula. More than 600 people from our community shared concerns and priorities when developing our emergency response. You now have an opportunity to take this further. Facilitators can help us make real change in protecting the Mornington Peninsula’s environmental future.”
