We all know recycling is good for the planet, but did you know it’s good for your wallet too? Victoria’s new container deposit scheme was launched yesterday, and for every eligible container you drop off at a collection point you’ll be rewarded with a 10c refund that you can either keep or give to a participating charity or community group. The containers will be recycled and turned into new plastic, glass or aluminium containers or other products. Network operator Return-It has established over-the-counter refund points at:
Seawinds Community Hub, 11a Allambi Ave, Capel Sound
BP, 1 Marine Drive, Safety Beach
Cellar and Pantry, 141 Shoreham Rd, Red Hill South
Dava Hotel, 614 Esplanade, Mount Martha
Mornington Community Support Centre, 320 Main St, Mornington
BP, 1386 Nepean Highway, Mount Eliza
Crib Point Cellars, 182 Stony Point Rd, Crib Point
BP inbound, 1404 Peninsula Link, Baxter
BP outbound, 1400 Peninsula Link, Baxter.
There are also self-service reverse vending machines at Sages Cottage, 85 Sages Rd, Baxter; and at Somerville Central, 49 Eramosa Road West, Somerville; and there’s a depot at 1/8 Henry Wilson Drive, Rosebud, with staff who can sort and count bulk loads of drink containers.
Peninsula-based community groups and businesses can contact Return-It at www.returnit.com.au to register as a collection point provider, or for charity and community group fundraising. The website also carries the location of collection points and their opening hours.
