When it comes to nude beaches, are you in favour of letting it all hang out? Or is the thought of all that flesh just too much to bare? It’s a question Mornington Peninsula Shire Council wants your help to address.
Sunnyside North Beach in Mount Eliza has been clothing-optional and popular with naturists since 1986, and is the only nudist beach along Port Phillip. In a statement today, the council is asking residents and visitors whether they’re happy for it to remain that way.
“With on and off lockdowns and travel restrictions over the past two years, visitors of the naked kind dwindled and locals exploring their 5km radius rediscovered the beach,” the council says. “With some locals now showing a renewed appreciation for the beach, council wants to find out if the community would like to maintain the clothing-optional status at Sunnyside North. Results from our survey will help council with their deliberations about the ongoing status of the beach. The decision to remove the clothing-optional status from Sunnyside North Beach rests with the State Government.”
You can go here to have your say between now and April 21 or pick up a feedback form from one of the council’s customer service centres.
“I encourage all Mount Eliza residents and beach users to complete this survey,” said Cr Steve Holland, “and include any comments or suggestions in relation to any illegal, antisocial or undesirable behaviour they have witnessed.”
