We are proud to present Fiona Chandler’s third solo exhibition at Manyung Gallery Mount Eliza, following two sell-out shows in 2022 and 2023.
Fiona Chandler’s latest exhibition is based around a sidetracked Sunday. Chandler responds to ever-shifting situation and environments the fleeting beauty she hopes to capture in her paintings.
This playful approach to painting, means Chandler is not counting on anything, but simply responding. Constantly resolving work in the face of wonder, the light changing the landscapes colour minute by minute. Over time nature adapts with trees and rocks in unlikely places. There are elements in the landscape where you least expect to find them — there is surprise here.
For the artist, watercolours allow her to delve into this excitement and awe of her environment. Even the change in weather effects the way the watercolour is used and behaves. Chandler pushes the boundaries of her medium to capture the complexity of the Australian landscape.
‘When Content Was A Feeling’ is Chandler’s seventh solo show, a combination of the last few years of work. She reminds us to seek out simplicity — a rock, a wave, a landscape — because here, is complexity, depth, and joy. In the unexpected, there is joy, playfulness and wonder.
